Greyson Chance anyone… But I’m completely obsessed with it so I can’t help it. Thankfully Xag is a kind soul and is completely ok with it. This is for the cover of the coming Panorama Journal so that why I didn’t focus on the sky. Completely digital on Photoshop CS5.

For the ecological book I’ve been illustrating these past weeks… there’s been a lot pressure to get it right, with the amount of botanical geeks surrounding it. The book should be out by the end of the month.

So, these have been some slow weeks for me… but David needed some help doing the end sheets for the eco-book he is illustrating (which as far as I heard made the author cry when she saw it) and he had no time and asked me for help. Pelikan black inks and my Pentel color brush on 110lb drawing paper. Turns out doing trees is much like doing tribals.

Today I have been working on two ghost projects, why ghost projects? well I was a hired and paid t do them. I delivered the first set of mockups and I never heard from them again. no feedback, no comments, no fired letter, no ‘green light’ or ‘go ahead’ to continue development. I’ve prepared what I believe are solid proposals. I’ve covered all my bases… Then the waiting begins.
A day goes by without a call back. Then another. And another. I’m beginning to wonder if the prospect received my email email. Maybe she went with someone else? Should I call? Should I wait another day or two? Will following up make her think I am desperate for work? But what if I don’t call? Will she think I’m not interested? what if after a few weeks Its been to late to call and I worry because she may pop up and ask about progress… and I have nothing else but the proposals. I never got a follow up on that… but maybe she expected me to make the call? Days like to day I decide to work a bit on them just to ease my worrying a bit.

We got signed up to do a ecological book that will feature a children story and a short who’s who of  the plants surrounding the University. Here’s a random flower I draw from scratch to show the author the style in which it will be done.

So for the past few week I got hired to work on a social initiative that involves creating healthy spaces for kids and teens in the far western suburbs of Bogotá.  A pretty depressed area (though not far from where we are planning to move) I didn’t get many guidelines besides having to spend a day there volunteering. So I approached the logo in 3 decisively different ways.

Although I have done the layout for this poetry magazine for other 5 issues this is the first time its actually features my own art. The magazine is pretty flat and minimalist so really anything else would just seem out of place. Realized I’m a bit rusty with illustrator; but honestly, I’m a Photoshop guy all the way.

Just a pic of my new work station, the creative space… I won’t lie to you, I have spent copious amount of time tidying it up. I admit I break the freelancer sanity rule of not working where you play… but I do hope its just for the time being as I get my own place. It’s a big old robust desk I inherited from my dad and even tho it makes my room look small I love how you feel when working on it.

Here’s the non altered pic… for those who like authenticity. The idea was to get the picture in low light with as little noise as possible. Decided mas ISO for this was 1600.

In an attempt to offer something a little bit more “serious” or “commercial into our portfolio, I decided to work on my realistic painting skills. The result is this portrait, in which I used Greyson Chance’s face as reference. I like the crafty process of these kind of works because you’re just thinking of tweaking and adjusting stuff. I still have some trouble achieving a 1:1 look but I guess I’ll learn to do it with time.

This is one of the weeks I find myself stuck, There’s no urgent work, so I know I should be working on getting my dreams to come true. But I don’t. I found that when I find an excuse to NOT do what I have to do I can unleash copious amounts of creative working energy towards solving a problem. Here’s a couple of belated shots.

For the last two years I have been working on a online web service company that offers online table reservations to users and reservations management to restaurant all over the country. Its called MESAENLINEA (Which roughly translates: TABLEONLINE)
I have been in charge of all the visual corporate identity for the website which launched during summer last year. This includes The web site, the web base application, the mobile versions, the logo, the promotional material, photo shootings, etc. Its been a lot of work and exhausting.
The entire concept is based on classy restaurants and I chose this golden glazed photography against this deep blue plated design using the Titanic as inspiration. I loved how this dining room on the movie are all golden and warm and how it contrast to the deep blue of the dark ocean on that fateful night.

Probably in what has to be one of the most heretic projects ever. I am working on a complete mockup of the 30+ authorized Tintin adventures for my Tintin project [Herecy 1]. I wanted to have a cover for Tintin and the new world by Frederic Tuten that matched more closely Herge’s style and replace the original Lichtenstein cover [Herecy 2]. And I came a cross this cover by André Julliard from his Adesso blog and realized this one would make a nice cover with some changes [Herecy 3] as it captures very closely the opening scene and of course the mood of the entire book. (I’m really hoping he released this under a creative commons license that allows modifications… otherwise I’m screwed.) Needless to say I loved this novel.

I was drafted to dribbble a few weeks ago and I really wanted to have a dedicated first shot. But well, I guess its better late than ever. I think I’m starting to find a my own color palette. I’m actually surprised I got it done this soon… generally it take ages between pictures.

Is my first scroll-based web comic (Yay!) - Click on the image or the title below to start. -
The piece is actually the compulsory task for my application to the Storytelling masters program at Konstfack university in Sweden. Obviously The Prince Rabbit helped me with the pencils and sketched painting.
